CB1 Poetry Open Mic Night featuring Dean Parkin

Entry: £3 / £2 concessions; Open Mic and featured performers, readings begin at 8pm and the event finishes shortly before 10pm.
(If you’re wandering around on the night, try to remember that the readings are held in the converted barn to the rear of the pub’s courtyard.)
“Come along just to listen to some great poetry, or arrive by 7.45pm to sign up for a 2-minute slot to perform your work before a friendly, attentive audience. Events usually have one or more featured poets, who begin each half before the open mic slots.”
CB1 is a genuinely friendly, inclusive poetry night, with some gob-smacking featured performers.
“Our final event for 2010 sees superlative performer Dean Parkin at The Punter, plus the last opportunity this year to imperil all with your poetry incendiaries in our open mic floor spots.
“Dean Parkin is an award-winning, widely published poet who recently received an Escalator Live Literature Award and an Arts Council England Grants for the Arts Award to develop his one man show, which premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Festival in August 2010.”

“An experienced performer, he is host of the Short Cuts Cabaret, one of many ongoing collaborations with with jazz pianist Maurice Horhut, and has given many readings across the UK and in the US. A Jerwood/Arvon Young Poet in 2003, his poems have appeared in many magazines including The North, Poetry Review, The Rialto, Smiths Knoll and The Forward Anthology. He’s also been published in the US magazines Greensboro Review and Washington Square. His first pamphlet, Irresistible to Women (2003) was followed by Just Our Luck (2008) – both published by The Garlic Press.”

“He is poet in residence for BBC Radio Norfolk, broadcasting once a month to help demystify poetry. He runs workshops in prisons, schools and for Spread the Word in London, and is a regular tutor on schools courses for the Arvon Foundation. Appearances include the StAnza Poetry Festival, the Dodge Poetry Festival, Poetry at Georgia Tech (Atlanta), Cambridge WordFest, The Wondermentalist Cabaret (Devon) ad The Troubadour (London).”
